Steinar Thór Gudlaugsson
Steinar Thor Gudlaugsson is Geysir‘s senior geophysicist. Steinar has a varied experience within the field of geoscience and natural resources which spans 25 years and includes research, teaching, project management, consulting and international cooperation. He studied at the University of Oslo, Norway, where he got his doctoral degree in applied geophysics. He held a tenured position at the University of Oslo from 1984-1997, from 1994 as Associate Professor. During this period, he cooperated closely with companies in the petroleum exploration industry, partly through industry-sponsored research projects, and partly as a consultant. After returning to Iceland in 1997, he joined the Geoscience Division of the National Energy Authority (NEA). When NEA was split up in 2003, Steinar took a position as chief marine geophysicist at Iceland GeoSurvey (ISOR). At NEA and ISOR his work initially involved geothermal exploration, research into geothermal systems and teaching at the United Nations University Geothermal Training Programme, but evolved gradually to focus on issues related to the Icelandic continental shelf.
