China and Iceland: Increased Cooperation in Geothermal Energy
The Chinese Embassy in Iceland reported that Ambassador Su Ge, accompanied by officials from Economic and Commercial Office of Chinese Embassy in Iceland, paid a visit to Geysir Green Energy on October 22, 2009, and had a meeting with Mr. Asgeir Margeirsson, CEO of the company. Mr. Margeirsson briefed Ambassador Su about the company, and highlighted their cooperation with Sinopec in Xianyang and other arrears in China. While complimenting benefits of clean energy, Ambassador Su spoke highly of the growing mutually-beneficial cooperation between China and Iceland.*
The Ambassador's visit is related to the close cooperation of the Chinese company Sinopec Star and Icelandic based Geysir have through Shaanxi Green Energy (SGE), a joint venture geothermal development company in China. Today, SGE operates and is actively expanding a geothermal district heating system for space heating and domestic hot water production in the city of Xianyang, Shaanxi Province.
